So I’ve always thought, even at the outset of doing this project, that it couldn’t very well go on forever. Well, it could, but that doesn’t strike me as worthwhile or interesting. And throughout doing this project, I’ve wondered when and how that ending might occur.
A few months ago, it occurred to me that 300 seems a decent place to stop. Or, if not stop, then take a significant pause and a step back. That’s an awful lot of drawings, and a good long time to be working on something. And seeing as how I’m now four drawings away from 300, I thought I would let you, my captive audience, know.
I don’t know for sure if I’ll end the project. But I have to figure out what to do with it, now that it’s gained this odd critical mass. Certainly, the tumblr site will always exist, as an archive. As for next steps, I have goals, and ideas: I want to make a book of them (and more specifically, I want someone else to foot the bill for it); I want to have an exhibition of all of them, in their totality. There have been three Lurking shows, but never all of them. It’s something that I dearly want to see. I’m working on these goals; getting anything off the ground, much less a book and a large-scale exhibition, is hugely difficult.
But there you have it. There will be four more new drawings. And then a long pause, which might very well go on forever.Posted 2 years ago with 8 notes
